E8 Markets is a US-based prop firm known for its solid community reputation despite being a relative newcomer. As a prop firm, it stands out for embracing an on-demand payout scheme and being a reliable choice for US traders. As professional and highly experienced traders at WR Trading, we did our due diligence and extensively tested, reviewed, and analyzed the prop firm’s value propositions and shortcomings to see if it can be a great alternative to prop firm titans such as FTMO, 5ers, FundingPips, and Topstep. Is it really a legit prop firm with amazing advantages (as it wants you to believe) or just another mediocre option in the sea of shady prop firms?

Here’s our guarantee: this review is not an “advertisement in disguise” for E8 Markets, as you will read extensively about our honest positive remarks as well as the negative things we observed and experienced about the prop firm. Our aim is to provide an objective evaluation of the prop firm to help you decide confidently whether to even give this prop firm a chance or if it is wiser to look elsewhere for better alternatives.

E8 Markets Experience Summary from Our Expert:

Andre Witzel Potrait
Andre Witzel
Trader & Editor-in-Chief
Overall, my verdict for E8 Markets is 4.3/5 stars. For the positives: I really like its generous 2 free trial commitment of 14 days each, its genuinely helpful and fast customer service via its live chat and email support, its competitive pricing with easy to access promotional discounts, and its efforts to maintain a solid and trustworthy community reputation without trying to censor critical feedback. I also like how you can adjust the drawdowns and profit share seamlessly, while being relatively more affordable with no hidden fees, unlike other prop firms.
On the other hand, for the negatives: I dislike how it missed the opportunity to couple its generous free trial with a comprehensive and one-stop education resource hub, which can be of extreme value for beginners. I also find that its payout on demand, while attractive on paper, has stringent conditions that you need to meet first. Finally, I do not like that it restricts news, overnight, and weekend trading, as these come standard with many other prop firms.

What is E8 Markets?

E8 Markets is the trade name of E8 Funding LLC, a technology and education company incorporated in the US (Dallas, Texas). It was founded in 2021 and explicitly provides access to “trading accounts within a simulated environment.” Hence, trading on the prop firm revolves completely around a demo environment that simulates real-world trading conditions. Note that it is not a broker (nor licensed to operate as one).

E8 Markets Assets
E8 Markets Assets

As a prop firm, it supports 4 external trading platforms: MetaTrader 5, cTrader, Match Trader, and Tradelocker. Notably, its business model centers on offering 3 distinct account types based on the asset class that can be traded: Forex, Futures, and Crypto. Both its futures and crypto accounts only have a 1-step challenge phase, while its forex accounts have 1-step, 2-step, and 3-step challenge options with further sub-variants. Finally, unlike other prop firms, it does not offer an instant funding option to any of its accounts.

Is E8 Markets legal?

Yes, E8 Markets operates legally as a simulated trading platform. Note, however, that the company explicitly states that all its accounts are simulated (demo) accounts and not sent to a broker. Hence, traditional broker-style investor protections do not apply, as you are not buying and selling actual financial instruments in the real market. In addition, E8 Markets can legally offer its products to US clients, but platform access is limited as MetaTrader 5 and cTrader are restricted for US citizens.

Restricted Countries and Territories

Afghanistan, Albania, Algeria, Belarus, Burundi, Central African Republic, Congo, Cuba, Democratic Republic of Congo, Ethiopia, Hong Kong, Iran, Iraq, Kenya, Kosovo, Lebanon, Libya, Mali, Midway Islands, Myanmar (Burma), Nicaragua, North Korea, Pakistan, Russia, Samoa, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan, Syria, Ukraine, United Arab Emirates, Vatican City State, Venezuela, West Bank, Western Sahara, Yemen, Zambia.

If your country is on this list, then it is wise to find an alternative prop firm rather than risk having an account with E8 Markets.

Is E8 Markets safe and secure to use?

Yes, E8 Markets is a legit and an overall trusted prop firm, with a modern and transparent trading dashboard, clear trading rules, and safe and secure payment methods (via Plane and Rise). This is in contrast with other, less-known prop firms that have shady payment channels, making your payment method vulnerable to scams or unauthorized access.

That said, just be mindful that it does not offer service to all countries, so check its restricted countries list (as we have listed above) before proceeding, as opening an account despite residing in one of these locations can result in your account being closed without warning, and with no refund.

The Challenge and Costs of E8 Markets: Explained

E8 Markets offers 3 primary funded account types based on the asset you want to trade: Futures, Crypto, and Forex. This means if you open a crypto account, then you can only trade crypto. Moreover, E8 only has a single account option for its crypto and futures, both of which are 1-step challenges. Meanwhile, its forex account is further divided into 3 challenge steps: 1-step, 2-step, and 3-step. Its 1-step has 2 subvariants, namely: E8 One and E8 Signature. Likewise, its 3-step also has 2 subvariants, namely: E8 Track 1:1 and E8 Track. It does not offer instant funding.

We know that this may be confusing, so to help you simplify and quickly compare them, here is a quick comparison table showing each account model’s cost, initial funded balance, and key trading metrics and rules (profit target, daily loss limit, and max trailing drawdown) to identify which fits you best:

Available Promo Codes and Rebates

E8 Markets offers promo (discount) codes all year-round. During our testing and review, we found that you can have significant savings, particularly with your first funded account, as it offers up to a 20% one-time discount. Hence, if you choose its cheapest (most affordable) option, which costs $40 (for a $5,000 funded account), and put its current 20% discount code, then you will only have to pay $32, which is an extremely competitive value versus other prop firms.

To check E8 Markets’ current available promo (discount) code, we recommend simply going to its own discount page: https://e8markets.com/about/discount. We also advise against going to other sites to look for potential discounts, as they may not be authentic and, worse, may even be a scam.

How difficult is it to pass the challenge on E8 Markets?

It really depends on the specific challenge you pick and your current skill level. Here’s our quick guide and general recommendation of who typically finds each path easier and who may find it riskier:

  • 1-Step Challenge: Best for intermediate to advanced traders with a defined edge and strong conviction who can take advantage of larger moves. In contrast, much newer (beginner) traders or anyone without tight risk control are more likely to breach or fail on this challenge.
  • 2-Step Challenge: This suits experienced and more systematic traders with proven trade expectancy. Meanwhile, strategy hoppers who tweak systems mid-evaluation usually see uneven outcomes as they take on higher risk (due to inconsistent trade approach) across the two-phase challenge.
  • 3-Step Challenge: This favors conservative, low-volatility trading approaches that compound small profits over time. On the other hand, momentum-based traders may struggle as the extended timeline (with minimum trading days) can result in opportunity costs (they could have been funded much earlier).

Notably, E8 Markets also offers a higher drawdown on its forex accounts (as an add-on, so it becomes more expensive, the higher the drawdown you select). However, we only recommend it to more experienced traders, as they can better take advantage of this flexibility. Also, note that the higher the drawdown percentage you select, the higher the profit target percentage as well, making it essentially a double-edged sword.

More information about the payout frequency:

Account TypePayout Frequency Rules
E8 One Account,  E8 classic and E8 Track1. No single trading day exceeds more than 40% of your total generated profits.
2. Your net profit must be more than 50% of your daily drawdown.
E8 Signature Forex, E8 Signature Crypto1. No single trading day exceeds more than 35% of your total generated profits.
2. 5 minimum profitable days between each payout. A “profitable day” must be a realized closed PnL equal to at least 0.3%.
3. Payout Buffer – you need to leave a buffer in your account of the same size as your EOD Trailing Drawdown.
4. Payout Cap – 1st and 2nd payout are both capped at 2.5% of your account size. Then 4.5% and 5.5% on the 3rd and 4th payouts, respectively.

What happens if you fail the challenge on E8 Markets?

When you fail your challenge on E8 Markets’ forex or crypto account, your evaluation ends immediately, and your account is closed automatically. When this happens, your next step, if you want to try again, is to buy a new account and start over. In contrast, for better or for worse, when you open a futures account with E8 Markets, you technically pay a “monthly subscription” fee instead of a one-time payment.

Hence, even if you fail and the account closes, it will just create a new account similar to your previous account type and will continue to bill you monthly. This could be a good thing if you plan to continue with E8 Markets. However, if you want to end your assessment and move on, you then have to remember to cancel your monthly subscription. Otherwise, you will incur this fee every month (especially if you’ve synced your credit card) until you cancel it.

Is E8 Markets suitable for beginner traders?

Generally, yes. We like that E8 Markets offers a generous 14-day free trial for each one (since you can have a total of 2 free trials, unlike other prop firms who only offer a one-time 7-day trial or none at all). Then, when you finally feel confident to start a paid challenge, E8 Markets offers a low-cost entry option for traders on a budget, with its cheapest plan being $40 for a $5,000 funded account before any discount or promo code.

E8 Markets Prop Trading Firm
E8 Markets Prop Trading Firm

In fact, with a discount or promo code, this cost can be as low as $32 (based on our own test), making it relatively cheap and a great way to start and test your trading system/approach without risking much bigger capital if you fail.

Can E8 Markets be used by serious and professional traders?

Yes, E8 Markets can work for serious traders who understand risk and evaluation mechanics. We like that it supports modern trading platforms while maintaining a good reputation among traders (seen largely as trusted and legit rather than a scam), with a safe and secure payout process. Not to mention the costs to enter can be low cost or even feel cheap when you use an available promo or discount code, making it a great choice for serious traders who know exactly how to start.

In addition, the following types of serious traders will also appreciate:

  • For Intermediate Traders: The clean user interface and dashboard, and simple trading rules help you focus on trade execution. As mentioned, entry fees are manageable, even if you are on a budget (use a promo or discount code to get significant savings), making it relatively low-cost to test if you fail the assessment.
  • For Advanced Traders: The profit share split (up to 100%) is competitive, and the payout on demand is practical once you are consistent and familiar with E8 Markets’ payout conditions, making it a high-paying prop firm choice. We also like that it supports a modern trading workflow (and is reliable for both systematic and discretionary approaches).
  • For Professional Traders: If you have been a professional prop firm trader and are looking to diversify outside of mainstream prop firms (such as FTMO, 5ers, etc.) E8 can be a great low-risk scalable venue as it offers up to $500,000 funded account value with up to 100% profit split.

Does E8 Markets really pay out your profits?

Yes, E8 Markets really does pay the share of the profit you earned from the platform. We also checked and reviewed community feedback from various sources (such as Reddit and other online forums), and most users with funded accounts have confirmed that the prop firm really pays (legit) and is not a scam. That said, one of our major concerns regarding this aspect (which was also raised by many users) is its stringent payout conditions (as we listed in the above section).

Are there complaints and negative feedback about E8 Markets?

Yes, we found valid complaints and negative feedback regarding the prop firm on popular community platforms such as Reddit and Trustpilot. The general sentiment is how its spreads are deceivingly expensive and how stringent its payout conditions are. Also, we noticed that while many users have an overall good experience with them (referring to it as a legit option and not a scam), its limited track record compared to household prop firm names (especially FTMO, 5ers, and FundingPips) still makes it a riskier option.

Which trading platforms are available on E8 Markets?

E8 Markets officially supports 4 modern external trading platforms, as well as its own trading platform for futures. These are:

  • TradeLocker: A TradingView-powered platform known for its intuitive charts and quick order entry. Also ideal for discretionary trading, but with limited algo trading functions.
  • MetaTrader 5: One of the most prominent multi-asset CFD platforms, offering support for algorithmic trading via MQL5, advanced order types, and a huge marketplace.
  • Match Trader: A well-known platform with fast onboarding and built-in copier tools, highly suited for discretionary (manual) trading, but not as optimal for automated trading compared to other platforms.
  • cTrader: A multi-asset platform built for advanced discretionary and algorithmic trading. It offers faster execution and more transparent depth-of-market data, making it a modern and great platform to start for traders who want more flexibility beyond MetaTrader.
  • E8 Futures (proprietary): E8 Markets’ own trading platform (and the only option) for its futures accounts.

Note: US citizens and residents cannot use cTrader and MT5. This is because cTrader and MT5 are tied to CFD trading, and retail CFD trading is not allowed in the US.

What are the trading fees and spreads on E8 Markets?

Here are the crucial details of all trading fees E8 Markets imposes, namely: platform fee, spreads, commission, swap, and monthly fees that you may (or may not) encounter depending on the account and asset you choose to trade on your funded account:

FeesDetails
Trading Platform FeeNone
SpreadsYou can choose either:
Standard spreads with no commission, or Raw (tight) spreads + commission
CommissionStandard spreads: $0 commission
Raw spreads: $5-$12 commission per lot (depending on the instrument)
Overnight (Swaps) FeesYes, swaps apply when holding positions overnight (applicable to Forex, overnight holding is not allowed on futures and crypto)
Monthly Subscription FeesWith a monthly subscription fee for its futures account.
Note: Even if you fail and the account closes, it will not change the subscription billing date or automatically cancel it. Instead, it will create a new account similar to your previous account type.
No monthly fee for Forex and Crypto

Which broker does E8 Markets use?

None, E8 Markets explicitly states that your trades are placed on simulated (demo) accounts inside E8 Markets’ closed environment and are therefore not routed to an external retail or institutional broker. Due to this, your funded account with the prop firm is completely virtual and you do not actually make live broker orders as your orders, profits, and losses are all simulated.

E8 Markets Dashboard
E8 Markets Dashboard
Modern Platforms

In other words, your funded account and all of your trades on E8’s supported modern platforms: TradeLocker, MatchTrader, cTrader, or MT5 are fictitious as all executed orders remain within E8’s simulated environment, not at a real broker.

Taxes on E8 Markets

Funded traders are responsible for paying taxes on all of their profits made on the E8 Markets platform. It is important to note that the payouts you receive from prop firms are typically treated as ordinary business income and not capital gains, which is the default classification if you are trading using your own money. This is because, rather than realizing gains on financial instruments when you actually buy and sell them, you instead trade on a demo or virtual trading environment with E8 Markets, and the funds and assets you see are completely simulated.

Having said this, we still highly advise you to know and follow your specific local tax rules. It is also wise to keep all records of fees and expenses you pay, as these may be potential deductibles or savings. If all of these sound complicated or you are unfamiliar with your local tax laws, then we recommend consulting a qualified tax professional in your specific country to assist your tax filing process.

What kind of support and education do E8 Markets provide?

The following are all the official support channels of E8 Markets:

  • Email: support@e8markets.com; the prop firm’s primary support channel. This is also the fastest and most reliable way to get assistance from the prop firm (especially for unique cases/issues/concerns).
  • Live Support: Available directly on the website’s contact page https://e8markets.com/contact; A customer support agent will then assist with your specific concern, which is a great way to quickly get in touch with your concerns and issues.
  • Community Channels (for general information and updates):

Note that these community channels are not ideal for unique and sensitive concerns/issues.

E8 Markets Education - Blog
E8 Markets Education – Blog

However, E8 Markets lacks its own one-stop educational resource, unlike other prop firms that have dedicated educational resource hubs, which makes it a great place to start for total beginners. Instead, its informational and educational materials are scattered around the following content mediums:

The best alternatives to E8 Markets

Here are four trusted, modern, and high-paying prop firms that could be a great alternative to E8 Markets that we highly vet as they are 100% legit and not a scam (based on their track record and our own independent testing):

  • Apex Funded Trader: A prop firm with a profit share split of up to 100% for your first $25k, then 90% on the following cycles. It also offers a regular payout every 8 trading days and features a unique breach safety net that locks your drawdown once you reach the threshold you set, preventing you from prematurely breaching your account and failing the assessment phase.
  • FundedNext: A highly acclaimed modern prop firm with up to 95% profit share split, account sizes up to $300k, and bi-weekly/monthly payouts. Some of FundedNext’s account models also have bonuses during the evaluation phase and guarantee a 24-hour payout process on your funded account.
  • FundingPips: A prop firm with a proven track record and a simple 2-step evaluation with a profit share split ranging from 80% to 100%. In addition, it has a high-ceiling scaling plan of up to $2M, making it highly attractive for experienced and advanced traders who value reliability and the highest potential ROI for their trading edge.
  • The Trading Pit: A reputable prop firm with regulated-broker partnerships (unlike other prop firms that operate solely on their own). Notably, it also offers a scaling plan of up to €5 million and has native support for major platforms, namely: NinjaTrader, Tradovate, TradingView, ATAS, Quantower, and R/Trader.

Conclusion

Our final take: E8 Markets is a genuinely good option as a 2nd or 3rd prop firm and a decent option as your first and primary prop firm. This is because while it has a solid community reputation, it is not on the same level as FTMO, FundingPips, and 5ers in terms of reliability and track record. Its strongest points are definitely its customer service and competitive pricing for its accounts. However, we find that its payout on demand has stringent and, quite frankly, frustrating conditions. Coupled with restricted news, overnight, and weekend trading, turns it into a prop firm with unnecessary compromises.

That said, if it manages to stay relevant, competitive, and reliable over time, we believe it is worthy to be considered in the same league as top prop firms in terms of trustworthiness and legitimacy. However, unless it addresses its stringent payout on demand conditions (or offers a more flexible alternative like a weekly or biweekly payout with less conditions), and finally drops the restriction on news, overnight, and weekend trading, then we do not recommend it to be your first or only prop firm, as the opportunity cost simply outweigh its offered benefits at this point in time.
